Traffic Safety Education will be taught quarterly, after school, during the school year. Students may apply for any quarter in which they wish to take the class. TSE is an elective class at NKHS and KHS with successful completion equaling a .25 credit. Any high school age student is welcome to apply. Students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis for each quarter, until the maximum number is reached. A student must be at least 15 years of age by the first day of class in which they enroll. Classes are two hours in length (3:00-5:00 PM), two days a week for a 9 week period. TSE is also offered during the summer quarter. There will 15-16 (34 hours) classroom instruction sessions and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Students will be scheduled to drive 6 sessions of behind-the-wheel driving instruction and also do 6 hours of observation time.
A Washington State Driver's Permit is required. Department of Licensing Permit Waivers can only be given out after the student is officially registered for the class, and on or after the first day of class. Permit waivers allow students enrolled in the class to obtain a driver's permit without first taking the DOL written test.
