Fall colors and crispness are in the air, and school is now in full swing. As a board, we are excited about the start of the year.
There are several new developments to announce…
1.We are excited to introduce Ken Ames as our new District 3 director, replacing Kathleen Dassel. We had four very qualified and capable candidates throw their hats in the ring. It was a difficult decision,as any one of them would have made a terrific director. Many thanks to all of them for taking the risk and offering their services! Ken brings with him awealth of experience and knowledge from his days as a South Kitsap school board member. We are happy to be able to glean his experience and knowledge as we move forward. Please reach out and welcome Ken to the team!
2.We are having our first Hispanic PTA night at St. Olaf Church at 8 pm on Saturday, October 6th. We will have interpreters available to help with language. Our goal is to reach out to the Hispanic community and make sure that all their needs are being met and questions being answered. We plan on making this a regular event during the school year.
3.Many thanks to parents and staff for some of the movement that had to be made at the beginning of the year. It is really challenging to “guess” where kids will show up, and this year was no different. We had a few schools and classes that were overcrowded and had to make internal changes to alleviate that. It ends up causing some pain in other areas, and for that we are sorry. The good news is that we have all those issues under control. We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility!
4.I encourage all parents to take some time this Fall Sports season and go to an athletic event somewhere in the district. Both high schools and junior highs have teams competing in a bevy of sports and always love to have fans there to cheer them on. The athletes and coaches put in a lot of time and effort. Let’s show them our support for the good work they do. In addition, you get a chance to see other tremendous “teams” like the marching bands, athletic trainers, cheer squads, and color guards. You might note that the big North Kitsap-Kingston football game is going to be played on Friday, October 19th at North Kitsap Stadium. Wear your colors and go root for your team!
As we get into the year a little further, we will have really tough challenges facing us, mostly around school closure and budget. We encourage you to come to school board meetings, comment when you have something to share, read our updates, and make your voice heard. This is your community and we value your input!

Se respira en el aire los colores de otoño y su frescura, y las escuelas están ya en pleno apogeo. Como miembro de la mesa, recibimos con emoción el principio de este año.
Tenemos varios eventos nuevos que anunciar…

Tenemos el gusto de introducirles a ustedes como nuevo director del Distrito 3, a Ken Ames, quién está remplazando a Kathleen Dassel. Tuvimos cuatro candidatos bastante calificados que se animaron a aplicar. Fue una decisión muy difícil para nosotros ya que cualquiera de ellos hubiera sido un director maravilloso. ¡Muchas gracias a todos ellos por tomarse el riesgo de peticionar y por ofrecer sus servicios! Ken, nos brinda una rica experiencia de conocimientos adquiridos en sus buenos tiempos como Miembro de la Mesa del Distrito del Sur (SKSD). Nos agrada poder aprovechar de su experiencia y sabiduría mientras seguimos adelante. ¡Por favor busquen a Ken y denle la bienvenida al grupo!

Vamos a tener nuestra primer junta hispana de Padres, Maestros y Alumnos (PTA por sus siglas en inglés), en la Iglesia de St. Olaf´s, a las 8pm, el sábado 06 de octubre. Intérpretes estarán disponibles para ayudar a traducir. Nuestra meta es ponernos en contacto con la Comunidad Hispana y asegurar que todas sus necesidades sean abastecidas, y que sus preguntas sean respondidas. Estamos planeando hacer este evento con regularidad durante el año escolar.

Muchísimas gracias a los padres y a los empleados del distrito por soportar todos los cambios que se tuvieron que hacer al principio del año. En realidad es un desafío "adivinar" en dónde y cuantos estudiantes van a inscribirse, y éste año no fue diferente. Tuvimos unas escuelas sobrecargadas de estudiantes y se tuvieron que hacer unos cambios para aliviar esa carga. Esto termina causando penas en otras áreas, y por lo consiguiente me pesa mucho todo lo que se tuvo que hacer. Lo bueno es que ya tenemos todo eso bajo control. ¡Apreciamos la paciencia y la flexibilidad de todos!
4. Les animo a todos los padres a que se tomen tiempo y vayan a los eventos atléticos de juegos deportivos de otoño que hay por todo el distrito. Ambas escuelas, la preparatoria tanto como la secundaria, tienen equipos compitiendo en una variedad de deportes y les encantaría tener entusiastas echándoles porras. Los atletas y entrenadores dedican mucho tiempo y esfuerzo. Demostrémosles nuestro apoyo por el buen trabajo que hacen. Además, ustedes tendrán la oportunidad de ver otros "equipos magníficos" como: bandas de la escuela, entrenadores atléticos, porristas y guardias. Ustedes ya habrán notado que el famoso juego de football, North Kitsap contra Kingston, será el viernes 19 de octubre en el Estadio del North Kitsap. ¡Pónganse los colores de su equipo y échenle porras!
Mientras más adelante entramos a este año, tenemos que enfrentarnos a desafíos muy difíciles. La mayoría de éstos son acerca de clausuras de escuelas y de presupuestos. Los alentamos a que vengan a las juntas de la Mesa de Directores de Escuela, (School Board of Directors), y se dirijan a nosotros si tienen algo que compartir, que lean las actualizaciones que tenemos, y que nos hagan escuchar su voz. ¡Ésta es su comunidad, y valoramos su contribución!
