2024 Capital Levy: Schools Begin Planning for Improvements

2024 Capital Levy: Schools Begin Planning for Improvements
Updated

Thanks to voter approval of the 2024 Capital Levy, planning is underway for improvements at Suquamish, Pearson, and Gordon Elementary Schools. Staff and families have been part of the conversation, helping to ensure these projects reflect the needs of each school community.

  • Suquamish Elementary: Early discussions have focused on bringing specialized services together, improving accessibility for students with higher support needs, and exploring updates like a secure vestibule, classroom additions, and better traffic flow.
  • Pearson Elementary: The planning team is looking at adding a gymnasium, designed with the future in mind so it can serve a new school in the years ahead. Improving parent pick-up and drop-off areas is also a priority, with plans for separate traffic loops for buses and private vehicles.
  • Gordon Elementary: The first planning session focused on clarifying traffic patterns with improved painting and signage, reviewing the need for an ADA-accessible pathway from Barber Cut-Off, and exploring a secure vestibule with office reconfiguration. Playground upgrades are also being considered.

This process is all about listening, refining, and ensuring that each school gets the improvements it needs. The next phase will involve further design work, county permitting, and expanding planning to Vinland Elementary, Wolfle Elementary, Kingston Middle and Kingston High School later this month. As we head into spring, all schools will be in preliminary planning!
