Fall 2021 Capital Projects Update
The Fall 2021 brought about a season of significant development for our schools, with over $9 million invested in comprehensive capital projects throughout our campuses. Key developments included HVAC replacements and enhancements at Gordon Elementary, Wolfle Elementary, Poulsbo Middle School, and Kingston High School. In addition, we executed lighting upgrades at Kingston Middle School, Gordon Elementary, and Vinland Elementary, alongside community pool improvements, roof repairs, portable removals, exterior painting, and traffic safety enhancements at Poulsbo Elementary.
The meticulous prioritization of these projects was influenced by extensive community and professional collaboration. The Community Facilities Advisory Committee, after a thorough review of district needs over two months, recommended a $40 million capital levy. District personnel then categorized projects based on urgency, with further reprioritization expected following the full Facilities Condition Assessment. It's worth noting our ongoing partnership with Puget Sound Energy, which has resulted in significant incentives and expected operational savings from lighting and HVAC upgrades. This partnership, which began in 2019, promotes energy-saving initiatives across our campuses.
The capital projects executed this fall reflect our steadfast commitment to enhancing our learning environments and ensuring the safety and comfort of our students. As we approach the Summer of 2022, we plan to conclude the projects laid out by the 2018 capital levy program, delivering on our promise of continued improvement.
