New Playground Opens at Richard Gordon Elementary
Updated

Just in time for the start of the new school year, Richard Gordon Elementary opened its brand-new playground for students and families to enjoy.

The project began in early spring with a student advisory panel of 2nd–5th graders, who helped design and develop the space. Their input shaped the selection of play structures, many of which are inclusive and designed for accessibility. The result is a playground that is 80% accessible for students with physical disabilities — ensuring more students can play and connect with friends.

The $415,000 project was funded by the voter-approved 2024 Capital Projects Levy, with Northwest Playground Equipment, Inc. serving as the lead construction agency.

Thank you to voters for making this new playground possible. Over the next two years, Richard Gordon Elementary will also see additional improvements through the 2024 Levy, including:

  • A new safe and secure entryway that directs all visitors through the front office to be greeted by staff.

  • Site accessibility upgrades such as improved sidewalks and pathways.
