Summer 2025 Capital Projects Update
Updated

While students were away this summer, crews were hard at work across North Kitsap School District completing facility improvements funded by the 2024 Capital Projects Levy.

More than $1.26 million in projects were completed during the summer months, focusing on maintaining school facilities, improving student spaces, and supporting long-term district needs.

Investing in school buildings and student spaces

Three major projects were completed as part of this summer’s work:

  • Exterior painting and sealing at Kingston Middle School, Suquamish Elementary, and Wolfle Elementary
  • A new playground at Gordon Elementary
  • Installation of a potable water line and permanent power at Kingston High School ballfields

These projects were planned to take place over summer break to minimize disruption and ensure schools were ready to welcome students back for the new school year.

Fresh updates across multiple campuses

Exterior painting and sealing projects gave several school buildings a much-needed refresh while also protecting building exteriors from weather and wear. Work was completed at Suquamish Elementary, Kingston Middle School, and David Wolfle Elementary. Budget allowed crews to paint all portable classrooms at Wolfle Elementary as well.

Completing the work under budget also allowed the district to fully paint buildings rather than only partial sections, extending the life of facilities across multiple campuses.

Original Budget: $704,211
Final Cost: $696,714

New playground at Gordon Elementary

Students returned to Gordon Elementary to find a brand-new playground ready for use. The project came in under budget and was the result of close collaboration between school staff, the PTA, vendors, and the district’s capital projects team to design and select equipment that met student needs while staying within budget.

Original Budget: $424,750
Final Cost: $412,303

Improvements at Kingston High School ballfields

At Kingston High School, a new potable water line and permanent electrical service were installed at the ballfields and concession stand. Previously, concessions relied on a generator and did not have permanent water access.

The project also delivered permanent power to the concession stand and both home dugouts, improving functionality for athletic events and community use of the fields.

Original Budget: $299,498
Final Cost: $160,969

Ongoing investment in school facilities

Summer capital work is part of the district’s ongoing effort to maintain safe, functional, and welcoming learning environments for students and the community. Projects funded through the 2024 Capital Projects Levy focus on maintaining facilities, improving student spaces, and supporting long-term infrastructure needs across North Kitsap schools.

These improvements ensure schools remain ready to serve students and community members well into the future.
