Facilities Advisory Committee Meeting - May 29, 2024
Updated
The third meeting of the FAC was held on May 29th at Suquamish Elementary School. Committee members toured the school with Principal Karra Lantz to understand the challenges and highlights of the school. Mike Merlino gave a financial overview, highlighting the committee's consideration of recommending a Capital Levy to the school board in November, with an outline of the timeline of requirements to meet the August 6th deadline to have a resolution filed with Kitsap County. Discussions also covered the timing of future levies and bonds, SCAP eligibility requirements, and fund transfer limitations.
The Bassetti team provided an overview of cost estimate components, and presented their findings on the conditions of Pearson, Poulsbo, Suquamish, and Wolfle Elementary Schools. While Poulsbo and Wolfle had recent HVAC replacements, Pearson was identified as most in need of replacement. The committee concluded that replacing Pearson should be a priority and explored strategies to accommodate projected enrollment increases, including potentially rebuilding Pearson with a larger capacity. The committee will meet at David Wolfle Elementary for its next meeting.
