Frequently Asked Questions

Individuals interested in serving on the FAC have applied to be part of the work to study available data and information informing NKSD facilities planning. Applications are reviewed by an application review committee of NKSD staff from across the district. This group makes recommendations on who should serve on the committee based on the following established criteria.

• Diverse representation reflective of our diverse community
• Relevant experience and expertise
• Ability to attend scheduled meetings, review materials, and participate/contribute to the discussion.

FAC members serve for one-year terms. Our next application period begins in March 2025.

While the responsibilities of the FAC include considering information and planning for all schools within the North Kitsap School District, some schools did not have a representative living within their school boundaries apply to serve on the FAC. Individuals from schools not already represented on the FAC are encouraged to fill out an application to serve on the FAC. To ensure that perspectives from across the district are considered in the process, multiple community meetings are held to gather feedback from community members who do not serve on the FAC. Information is also shared regularly at school board meetings and with the leadership team, in newsletters, and on our website.

FAC members serve in an advisory capacity, and their recommendations are shared publicly with the board of directors for discussion and a vote before any action. FAC meetings can involve sensitive topics like security measures, budget estimates, vendor negotiations, and preliminary site evaluations. These matters may require a degree of confidentiality to protect the district's interests and ensure that any disclosed information does not adversely affect negotiations or security plans. Committee members are tasked with discussing technical details, reviewing complex data, and deliberating on specific facility planning and construction aspects. Limiting public access to these meetings helps ensure a more focused and efficient working environment, enabling members to explore issues and develop well-informed recommendations thoroughly.
