A Message from North Kitsap School District’s Acting Superintendent, Rachel Davenport - February 28, 2024
Updated

Dear North Kitsap Community,

In times of great challenge, it is our community’s shared resilience and commitment to one another that guide our path forward. As your acting school district superintendent, I am writing to provide an update to our community and share the district’s approach during a time of difficulty and transition.

The district is aware of Dr. Evans’ court appearance this morning. We understand that there was a pretrial diversion reached with the court but we have not confirmed all of the details of the diversion.

In addition to these legal proceedings, the North Kitsap School District is actively conducting its own investigation into allegations against Dr. Evans. As is the case with any personnel matter, the district must be careful not to undermine the ongoing investigation. Even at the conclusion of the district investigation, the information that we will be able to share will be limited. I understand the desire to know more details and to have a resolution to this matter. That time will come, but I ask for your patience now as we work through processes meant to foster transparency and fairness for all.

For now, please know that the district is engaged in measures to address and resolve the current situation. As you might imagine, I am unable to share additional information to this point, but rest assured; we are committed to bringing this challenging situation to a conclusion as soon as possible while maintaining fiscal responsibility for the district.

Looking ahead, our leadership team and I understand that there is work to be done to rebuild trust. We are committed to transparency, maintaining open lines of communication, and gathering feedback from the greater community. Our actions will be guided by principles that I hold dear: relying on facts and data to guide decisions, sharing information as openly as we can, rebuilding trust together, and creating the best environment possible for our students. In the coming months, there will be opportunities to gather community feedback. Your thoughts, concerns, and hopes are essential to our shared success as we rebuild trust and strengthen our school's foundation.

Our mission to provide an outstanding educational experience for every student remains unchanged. We have a deep responsibility to shape the future of our students, requiring our best efforts and highest standards. We will continue to prioritize programs and initiatives that foster academic excellence and personal growth, ensuring a nurturing environment for every student.

With sincere appreciation,

Rachel Davenport

North Kitsap School District
