IMPORTANT! 2026-2027 School Bell Schedule and Calendar Updates

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, North Kitsap School District will implement several updates to school bell schedules and the academic calendar. These changes are part of the recently ratified NKEA contract. The school day will be extended by five minutes each day, and Wednesday early release time for teacher Professional Learning Community (PLC) collaboration will change from 60 minutes to 50 minutes. Together, these changes increase instructional time for students while providing additional flexibility and maintaining dedicated collaboration time for teachers.

Bell Schedule Changes

The school day will be five minutes longer at all schools beginning this fall. Elementary schools will start five minutes earlier, and secondary schools will end five minutes later.

Elementary Schools

  • Regular Schedule: 9:15 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.
  • Early Release Wednesdays: 9:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Half Days: 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

North Kitsap High School, Kingston High School, and Poulsbo Middle School

  • Regular Schedule: 7:55 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Early Release Wednesdays: 7:55 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.
  • Half Days: 7:55 a.m. to 10:55 a.m.

Kingston Middle School

  • Regular Schedule: 8:05 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.
  • Early Release Wednesdays: 8:05 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.
  • Half Days: 8:05 a.m. to 11:05 a.m.

Calendar Changes for 2026-2027

In addition to the bell schedule changes, several updates have been made to the 2026-2027 school calendar.

Fall Conferences

Elementary Schools and Options K-8

  • No school Monday, October 26
  • Half days Tuesday, October 27 through Friday, October 30

Secondary Schools

  • Half days Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30

Teacher Grading Day

Friday, January 29 will be a half day for all students. The early release provides teachers with dedicated grading time at the end of the semester.

Mid-Winter Break

A new mid-winter break has been added to the school calendar. There will be no school from Monday, February 15 through Friday, February 19.

Spring Conferences

Spring conferences will be held for elementary schools only.

  • Half days Tuesday, March 30 through Friday, April 2
  • Conferences will not be scheduled for all students
  • Teachers will invite families to conferences based on student needs

The Board of Directors has approved both the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school calendars. Families and staff are encouraged to review the updated calendars and bell schedules as they plan for the upcoming school years.
