This April, the North Kitsap School District celebrates National School Library Month by highlighting the remarkable Library Media Specialists who enrich our schools.

Inspiring Discovery and Creativity at Suquamish Elementary

Chelsea Stone brings her infectious enthusiasm and deep passion for reading to her role as the Library Media Specialist at Suquamish Elementary. Despite being relatively new to the position, Stone's commitment to fostering a love of literature and celebrating diverse cultures is evident in every aspect of her work, creating a library that is a place of learning and a safe haven that encourages joy and creativity.

Cultivating a Dynamic Learning Environment

Mrs. Stone is a staunch advocate for student choice, empowering students through various interactive stations that cater to different interests and learning styles. Her innovative approach includes:

  • Lego Wall and Creative Play Stations: These areas allow students to explore building and engineering concepts playfully and engagingly.
  • Art and Coloring Station: Students can express themselves artistically, fostering their creativity and fine motor skills.
  • Writing Station: This space encourages literacy and communication skills by allowing students to practice writing in various styles and formats.

Additionally, Stone has introduced a unique incentive system, "Mrs. Stone Points," which students earn through participation and achievement. These points can be exchanged for fun library celebrations, acknowledging and rewarding the successes of her students.

Embracing Technology and Innovation

Mrs. Stone's enthusiasm extends into the realm of technology and media science. She has begun integrating robotics into the library's activities, using Wonder Workshop tools to introduce students to coding and programming. This forward-thinking approach ensures that students are engaged and prepared for the future, equipping them with the skills necessary for the evolving digital world.

A Haven for Curiosity and Joy

Mrs. Stone aims to nurture students' curiosity and creativity by transforming the library into a cherished space. Her friendly personality and sincere passion for storytelling encourage students to explore the enchantment of books and the thrill of gaining knowledge. With Mrs. Stone at the helm, the Suquamish Elementary Library is a vibrant center of inspiration, wonder, and endless possibilities, reflecting her vision of sparking a lifelong love for learning in each and every student.
