North Kitsap School District Celebrates Groundbreaking of Suquamish Elementary Gymnasium Addition
The North Kitsap School District marked a significant milestone today with the groundbreaking ceremony for the addition of the Suquamish Elementary Gymnasium. Amidst a gathering of esteemed guests, student representatives, tribal council members, elected officials, and district leaders, the event celebrated the commencement of a project that holds profound significance for the Suquamish community.
Student representatives from each grade level joined Suquamish Tribal Council members, elected officials, and district officials in the ceremonial turning of the dirt. Tribal Chairman Leonard Forsman delivered poignant opening remarks, emphasizing the historical importance of education as outlined in the Point Elliot Treaty signed by Chief Seattle. Forsman also acknowledged the generations who have attended Suquamish Elementary, highlighting the enduring legacy of education within the community.
Rachel Davenport, Interim Superintendent of North Kitsap School District, expressed gratitude to the contractors, architect firm, elected officials, and tribal council for their unwavering support and partnership. "Creating a space dedicated to physical education and serving the community of Suquamish is essential for fostering holistic growth and community engagement," shared Davenport, highlighting the project's multifaceted impact on students and the broader community.
This project was approved by voters as part of the 2022 Capital Levy, and NKSD deeply appreciates the local community's voter support and commitment to quality learning spaces for our students.
