October is Disability History Awareness Month!
This month, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of people with disabilities in our state, nation, and worldwide. Disability History Awareness Month promotes respect, acceptance, and inclusion of individuals with disabilities while highlighting their significant impact on society. Recognizing disability history inspires pride among students with disabilities, reduces harassment and bullying, and fosters a more inclusive school environment.
In 2008, the Washington State Legislature established this observance as a civic holiday, encouraging schools to engage in activities and lessons that increase understanding and appreciation for individuals with disabilities.
