Two North Kitsap Schools Earn Statewide Recognition for Student Growth and Closing Opportunity Gaps
North Kitsap School District is proud to share that two of its schools have been recognized through the Washington School Recognition Program for the 2023–24 school year. The honors come from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), the State Board of Education (SBE), and the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC).
Only 16% of Washington’s public schools received recognition this year. In total, 406 schools across 155 districts were honored through the program.
The following NKSD schools received recognition:
K-8 Options Program at David Wolfle Elementary
Recognized for Growth – Significant academic progress among low-income students
Suquamish Elementary
Recognized for Closing Gaps: Targeted Supports – Demonstrated substantial improvement for identified student groups
Recognized schools will receive banners to display in their buildings. The Washington School Recognition Program highlights schools making a difference for students through one or more of the following categories:
- Closing Gaps: Demonstrating substantial improvements for specific student groups, particularly those previously identified for targeted supports under ESSA.
- Growth: Making significant annual gains across multiple state measures, with a focus on equity.
- Achievement: Excelling on measures like proficiency, graduation rate, and school quality indicators.
More information about the recognition criteria and methodology can be found at the Washington State Board of Education website.
