Visual and Performing Arts:
Exploring Creativity!
Did you know that students who engage in the arts are more involved, perform better in school, and are more likely to graduate and stay active in their communities? At North Kitsap Schools, we believe every student deserves a rich and exciting arts education throughout their K-12 years.
Every elementary school in the North Kitsap District offers visual or performing arts lessons in keeping with state guidance and may include some of the following:
- Visual Arts: Activities designed to help students explore their artistic side with drawing, painting, sculpting, and more! Visual arts help students develop fine motor skills, visual-spatial skills, and creativity.
- General Music: Students at all schools experience the opportunity to discover the joy of music through singing, playing instruments, and understanding rhythms and melodies. General music classes foster a love for music and enhance auditory skills.
- Dance and Movement: Dance and movement lessons offer young students an exciting way to express themselves through various dance styles and learn or even experience cultural dances at some schools. The opportunity to move helps improve coordination, balance, and rhythm while boosting physical fitness and fostering confidence.
Our arts curriculum follows the Washington State Arts Learning Standards, which emphasize the key aspects of the artistic process:
- Creating: Developing new and imaginative artistic ideas and works.
- Performing: Interpreting and presenting artistic ideas and creations.
- Responding: Understanding and evaluating the meaning behind the arts.
- Connecting: Relating personally to artistic ideas and works.
Remember, the arts are a core subject in Washington State! They inspire creativity, self expression, boost confidence, and make learning fun.
