Spanish Dual Language

Students working togetherThe optimal window of opportunity for second language learning is infancy through early childhood. This means that students who learn a second language before the age of 12 will have a more native-like fluency than learners who begin later. The Dual Language program provides the opportunity for elementary-aged students to learn a second language and instills a sense of global awareness and responsibility. The Dual Language program successfully prepares our K-12 native Spanish-speaking and native English-speaking students for college and/or careers in a multicultural society through proficient communication in both languages.

This program develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and biliteracy, as well as cultural sensitivity/literacy. Outcomes are achieved through rigorous academics and enrichment activities in both English and Spanish languages for all students in the program. Students’ native languages become assets for their own learning and the learning of others. Instruction is provided strategically in both languages to build fluency but also to ensure that students are proficient in the essential content subject matter.
