AVID: Advancement Via Individual Determination

The AVID K-12 College and Career Readiness system uses proven best teaching practices from throughout the country to teach students note-taking, organization, collaboration, and higher levels of questioning skills. Emphasis is placed on writing, reading skills, critical thinking, teamwork and organization.

AVID is a non-profit organization that provides professional learning for educators to improve college and career readiness for all students, especially those traditionally underrepresented in higher education. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

Regardless of their life circumstances, AVID students overcome obstacles and achieve success. They graduate and attend college at higher rates, but more importantly, they can think critically, collaborate, and set high expectations to conquer the challenges that await them confidently.

NKSD uses AVID strategies districtwide, K-12.
