Summer student Chromebook plan

All NKSD students will keep their district-provided computers over the summer break. This will provide equitable access to technology over the break regardless of what resources are available at home. Summer technology assistance will be broken down as follows:

Summer School Students
Students participating in summer school should bring their Chromebooks to school each day. Summer school families should use the Student Help Desk to request technical assistance with their Chromebook. Teachers will also be able to submit help desk tickets for students.


Students Not Taking Summer School
Starting on August 8, students who didn’t participate in summer school can begin to submit support tickets using the Student Help Desk if their device is having issues. After receiving a support request, a team member will reach out to schedule a time for the device to be brought to the Student Support Center for repair.

IXL and ALEKS Math Available to Students during Summer

We have great news! Current K-5 students have access to IXL, and Secondary students in current grades 6, 7, or 8 math, or Integrated Math I, II, or III will have access to ALEKS Math from June 22 through August 5 to support math skill-building throughout the summer. Back-to-school changes

All high school devices will be refreshed with new Chromebooks when NKSD students return in August. Below is the current plan for making the device swap.

Incoming 9th Grade Students

  • All KHS and NKHS incoming 9th graders will swap their devices at the Bridge to High School day on August 30th. More details will come in August.


Incoming 10th-12th Grade Students

  • All NKHS incoming 10th-12th graders should plan on swapping their devices during Viking Rush on Thursday, August 18. Any student unable to attend Viking Rush can swap their device on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 31. Details will be available from your school.
  • All NKHS incoming 10th-12th graders should plan on swapping their devices during Buccaneer Back to School Prep Day on Monday, August 29, from 12:30 pm-4:30 pm. Any student unable to attend Prep Day can swap their device on the first day of school, August 31. Details will be available from your school.

K-1 Device Pilot decision

Thank you to the 250+ kindergarten and 1st-grade families who provided feedback on the student Chromebook take-home pilot. After reviewing the feedback and data submitted by teachers, library media specialists, and parents, we have decided that K-1 students will continue to take their devices home. Equitable access to resources is one of the driving forces behind NKSD Connected, and we want to ensure this access extends to all students regardless of age.

We also understand that bringing the Chromebooks home may not always be ideal for all families. Since the start of the school year, NKSD has allowed any student who wishes to keep their Chromebook at school. This option is also available to K-1 students. Should this be an option your family expects to use, please connect with your child’s teacher to arrange for their Chromebook to remain at school.
