Metal Technology 1 at North Kitsap High School: Students Turn Metal into Functional Art

In Metal Technology 1 at North Kitsap High School, students recently put their growing skills to the test by designing and building their own wall hooks for hanging coats and bags. The project gave students a hands-on way to apply everything they've been learning in a real, functional product.

Working with a mix of new and repurposed metal, students planned their designs from the ground up. They measured and cut their materials, shaped them to match their vision, and welded the final pieces together, all while following industry recognized tool use and safety practices at every step.

Metal Technology 1 is an exploratory course that introduces students to the foundational skills of the trade, including cutting, bending, fastening, and welding metal. Safety and productivity are emphasized throughout, giving students a strong base for more advanced coursework down the line.

This course connects directly to the Manufacturing Career Cluster, opening the door for students to explore future pathways in skilled trades and industrial careers. From concept to creation, students in Metal Technology 1 are gaining real experience that could shape their next steps after high school.
