The North Kitsap School District proudly implements the AVID K-12 College and Career Readiness system, designed to foster essential skills that empower students to excel in their educational journey and beyond. By drawing on best teaching practices from across the nation, AVID teaches students valuable skills, such as note-taking, organization, collaboration, and advanced questioning techniques. The program emphasizes writing, reading comprehension, critical thinking, teamwork, and organization.

As a non-profit organization, AVID provides professional development opportunities for educators, with the goal of enhancing college and career readiness for all students. AVID focuses on supporting traditionally underrepresented students in higher education and aims to bridge the achievement gap by preparing every student for college readiness and success in an increasingly global society.

AVID students at NKSD, irrespective of their backgrounds or life circumstances, learn to overcome challenges and achieve success. They not only graduate and attend college at higher rates but also cultivate the ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, and set high expectations. These skills enable them to confidently navigate future challenges in their academic and professional lives.

In the North Kitsap School District, AVID strategies are employed districtwide, encompassing all grade levels from kindergarten to 12th grade. The NKSD AVID webpage offers detailed information on the program's structure, goals, and impact on student success, as well as resources for educators, parents, and students. By embracing the AVID system, NKSD remains dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential and prepares them for a successful future.
